That little mermaid picture is the worst thing I've ever seen. I'm going to answer these on your blog instead of in person because I want everyone to know about me and how cool and funny I am.

1. Which of the potential Oscar nominees aren't you planning on seeing?
I haven't been keeping track of Oscar nominees that closely, but I'm not that excited about Frost/Nixon. That said, I'll probably end up seeing it either on the big screen with you, or on the little screen with my cross stitch.

2. In one sentence, answer this question: why do you blog?
To get attention.

3. Name the movie that only you love.
Dance! Workout with Barbie

4. Two actors and two actresses that need to GO AWAY!
Jessica Alba and Mandy Moore (mostly said to make you angry)
Bernie Mac and Charleton Heston
(oh. wait.)

5. What movie remake pisses you off the most?
City of Angels

6. You have 24 hours left to live, what movies, if any, are you going to watch?
I probably would play Animal Crossing for a full 24 hours, but if I had to watch a movie it would probably be Willy Wanka and the Chocolate Factory.

7. Does the fact that The Little Mermaid is about a female who trades her voice for a vagina offend you?
No.

8. Can't Hardly Wait or 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That?
10 Things I Hate About You, but when you go back and watch them, they're all terrible.

9. What's the first and last movie you watched at the theater?
Ernest Scared Stupid and Let the Right One In

10. Ask any question you'd like here, then answer your own question and the question of the poster above you.
I would like to know which is worse: giant ant infestation or the song The Little Drummer Boy?
I would say giant ants, but that's only because I don't like large objects.

1. I don't know if Australia will get nominated for anything but I certainly have no plans on watching it. Simply Ballroom and Moulin Rouge both didn't do anything for me and this romantic epic looks to take boredom to epic proportions.

2. To improve my future.

3. My Big Fat Independent Movie

4. Dennis Hooper and Gary Busey (if you'd argue that they have gone away, I would argue that they haven't gone far enough) and Hilary Swank and Keira Knightly.

5. Race to Witch Mountain -- Way to fuck with my childhood in the worst way.

6. Hmm...24 hours, 12 movies. The Warriors, High Fidelity, Unfaithful, Do the Right Thing, Dangerous Minds, Style Wars, Back to the Future, Freestyle: The Art of Rhyme, The Birdcage

7. Hell yes it does. That's why I brought it up! I never thought about it until Whitney told me about a woman who wrote a paper on the subject. Jeez. "Stop speaking so you can land a man. Here's a vagina to do it with." How can we show that to little children?

8. 10 Things I Hate About You, hands down. "I'm down, I've got the 411. And you're not going out and getting jiggy with some boy. I don't care how dope his ride is. ... My momma didn't raise no fool!"

9. First: The Adventures of Milo and Otis. Last: Let the Right One In

10. Question: What DVD are you most hoping to get for Christmas?
Answer: The Old Boy 3-Disc Collector's Edition

elgringo said...

Oops, I messed it up already. Here's my answer to Whitney's question: Giant Ant Infestation. If I get bitten by one of them my hand will turn into a giant ant pincher and I'll no longer be able to work at my dental practice. Three 1/2 gold stars to the first one to name the movie I'm referencing. Hint: It stars John Goodman.

whitney said...

That would be Matinee, and you can keep your goddamn gold stars!

whitney said...

Matinee and Manitee look too much alike for my comfort.

elgringo said...

If that doesn't give you comfort then nothing will. Hope you can live with that.

1. Not especially psyched about THE READER.

2. I got tired of repeating myself.

3. MIAMI VICE

4. Ashton Kutcher, Dane Cook, Cameron Diaz, and Beyonce would all make me very happy if they suddenly disappeared.

5. Oddly enough I posted a top five this week about how terrible I think the TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE remake is.

6. I'd watch ALMOST FAMOUS and remember how much I loved both movies and music in my life.

7. Never thought about it that way...lemme get back to you.

8. 10 Things I Hate About You

9. The first was PINOCCHIO, and the last was DOUBT this evening.

10. The DVD I want most for Christmas is THE DARK KNIGHT (I had to wrap a copy I bought for a friend in a hurray, lest I "accidentally" crack it open and keep it for myself.

name one movie you've never seen on a big screen, but would really like to.

1. I think I'm the only one, but I've yet to see "Wall-E" and probably won't. These Pixar films just don't fo much for me. When "Ratatouille" ended up on so many best of lists last year, I never sought that one out either. Maybe when I have kids...

2. In my best Charlton Heston voice: because if I don't, I'll die!

3. 1992 indie classic called "Laws of Gravity" I can't find anyone who has even seen it, let alone love it.

4. Nicholas Cage, Dane Cook, Jennifer Aniston and Kate Hudson (except her role in "Almost Famous")

5. The upcoming remake of the GREAT BBC mini-series "State of Play". The series was near perfect and now we get Ben Affleck starring.

6. Casino, The Big Lebowski, Vertigo, Chinatown and then laugh my way out with Monty Pythons The Meaning of Life.

7. I have no problems with voices, or mermaids and especially no problem with vaginas.

8. This is like choosing the President of the US... the lesser of two evils. I'll go with "Can't Hardly Wait", although I really can't remember if I've seen either one.

9. Pete's Dragon and Cadillac Records

10. Help me settle a dispute here. What's the worst movie of the year? I gotta believe nothing can get worse than Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. And boy did South Park jump the shark with their Spielberg/Lucas rape episode.

And question from Mad Hatter: name one movie you've never seen on a big screen, but would really like to.

Hmm... Prince of the City.

1. Which of the potential Oscar nominees aren't you planning on seeing?

Any of them. I think I've only seen Wall-E. It sounds horrible, but a lot of times I feel think that marketing, etc. has more to do with the Awards sometimes than the actual merit of the films. So Oscar nominee films just get chucked on to my "To See" list with no hurry.

2. In one sentence, answer this question: why do you blog?

So that I can feel like a special snowflake, of course.

3. Name the movie that only you love.

Spice World, apparently.

4. Two actors and two actresses that need to GO AWAY!

Actors: Daniel Day-Lewis and Hugh Grant.
Actresses: Julia Roberts (WHY, WHY WON'T SHE JUST .. DISAPPEAR), Jessica Alba.

5. What movie remake pisses you off the most?

They're planning to do a Suspiria remake pretty soon and that's got me all wound up. Other than that, I'd say the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre with Jessica Biel.

6. You have 24 hours left to live, what movies, if any, are you going to watch?

Let's say, all the Alien movies. Except for Resurrection. LAME. It doesn't exist in my universe.

7. Does the fact that The Little Mermaid is about a female who trades her voice for a vagina offend you?

Just a tad.

8. Can't Hardly Wait or 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That?

10 Things I Hate About You.

9. What's the first and last movie you watched at the theater?

The first movie I have memories of seeing was Jurassic Park, when I was 8.

Last: Twilight, oddly enough.

10. Ask any question you'd like here, then answer your own question and the question of the poster above you.

Joseph B., I have no idea what the worst movie of the year is. What the worst movie of ALL TIME is, now that, I can probably answer.

My question: Cronenberg versus David Lynch in a battle to the death. WHO WINS?

1. Which of the potential Oscar nominees aren't you planning on seeing?

I'm not sure if Australia is a potential Oscar nominee, but I have no interest in seeing it, because a) I think Baz Luhrmann's overrated and b) the idea of him tackling a three-hour war epic doesn't sound appealing.

2. In one sentence, answer this question: why do you blog?

I don't, but I'd like to.

3. Name the movie that only you love.

Masters of the Universe

4. Two actors and two actresses that need to GO AWAY!

Only two? Man, there are lots. For the purposes of our discussion, I'll go with Dane Cook and Robert Pattinson (is it too soon to be sick of him?); for actresses, I can't stand Keira Knightley and I'm really sick of Charlize Theron.

5. What movie remake pisses you off the most?

The Day The Earth Stood Still remake. Apparently Hollywood won't stop until they ass-rape every single classic.

6. You have 24 hours left to live, what movies, if any, are you going to watch?

Vertigo, Good Will Hunting, Being There, Halloween, and Laura. For the remaining 15 hours, I'll need a real time-killer... Shoah?

7. Does the fact that The Little Mermaid is about a female who trades her voice for a vagina offend you?

I'm more offended by the priest's boner.

8. Can't Hardly Wait or 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That?

10 Things I Hate About You. It was my introduction to Heath Ledger.

9. What's the first and last movie you watched at the theater?

E.T. (I think) and Milk.

10. Ask any question you'd like here, then answer your own question and the question of the poster above you.

What if you met the man/woman of your dreams and they were perfect in every way except that whenever they laughed hard, they vomited profusely. Would you go on with the relationship?

Answer: It's hard to fathom a relationship in which I would be fearful to make my girlfriend laugh too hard, but if she were perfect for me, I guess I'd suck it up and live in a humorless, laughter-less relationship. If George Lopez's wife can do it, why can't I?

Oh, and Caitlin, Cronenberg would mop the floor with David Lynch. He's taller, he's nicknamed "The Baron of Blood," and he made The Brood. Hell, even his last name alone sounds intimidating. Doesn't it sound like a professional wrestler, or an MMA fighter?

Escape From New York, Dawn of The Dead ( 78) Mad Max (The first one!) , Heavy Metal The Movie, The Warriors.

Not a bit. The Tin Man wanted Dorothy. I mean....a heart...yeah, that's the ticket.
8. Can't Hardly Wait or 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That?
10 Things. At least it's light literature. EXTREMELY light...LOL. Plus yeah, it has Heath. Pretty boy, poor where's my inspiration Heath, but Heath.
9. What's the first and last movie you watched at the theater?
Journey to the Center Of the Earth. In 3-D. it was my birthday, I wanted fun. It was. I'll never see it again. LOL. It may very well be the last movie, I reckon I'll only go for 3-d movies now, or perhaps IMAX .
10. Ask any question you'd like here, then answer your own question and the question of the poster above you.
Is it just me, or is George Lucas now officially insane ?
Yes.
and No. Vomit is kinda gross, and catching.

Good times, good idea.

1. Hmmm...Frost/Nixon, maybe?
2. For Google's big, big money - all of it.
3. I'm not that unique, but there are plenty of contenders. Let's go with Fletch Lives. :)
4. Nic Cage (duh), Sam Jackson, Zellwegger, and that blond chick from that CBS cop show that squints all the time.
5. The American version of Run Lola Run, if and when it happens.
6. Uh, I ain't watching anything that I've already seen. I might go to the theater, though...would be fitting.
7. Nope.
8. Can't Hardly Wait. Too good a cast, and J. Love's chest beckons me.
9. First? No idea. Last? Doubt.
10. My question for the next person: Would you rather run the rough edge of a steak knife across your eye or hold your arm in a furnace for 30 seconds? Moridb, huh?

To answer Eyes and Ears' question: no, Lucas isn't insane - just off the reservation and addicted to demin.

Oh, and to whoever asked - the worst film of 2008 was (by far) Strange Wilderness. Teh suck.

1. Which of the potential Oscar nominees aren't you planning on seeing?

Disaster Movie. What's that? It's not getting Oscar buzz? Great! Disaster averted.

2. In one sentence, answer this question: why do you blog?

To prove that just about any idiot with a computer can be a "critic".

3. Name the movie that only you love.

The Godfather

4. Two actors and two actresses that need to GO AWAY!

Julianne Moore
Angelina Jolie
Julianne Jolie
Angelina Moore

5. What movie remake pisses you off the most?

Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

6. You have 24 hours left to live, what movies, if any, are you going to watch?

The Power of One (my favorite movie)
Every David Lynch movie (so I'll be too stupified to care when the moment arrives)

7. Does the fact that The Little Mermaid is about a female who trades her voice for a vagina offend you?

Greatly. Aladdin is much more politically correct.

8. Can't Hardly Wait or 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That?

I Can't Hardly Wait to Hate All That About You

9. What's the first and last movie you watched at the theater?

Pinocchio (I think - the 1940 version, rereleased in 1984) and Frost/Nixon

1. Which of the potential Oscar nominees aren't you planning on seeing?

As much as I love Kate Winslet, I have little desire to see "The Reader" at this point. None of the contenders are really beckoning to me though.

2. In one sentence, answer this question: why do you blog?

Officially, to meet people with a passion for film, try to get across my own opinions and hopefully share some films I love.

But it's really just about feeling validated.

3. Name the movie that only you love.

Ocean's Twelve. It's a terrific art film.

4. Two actors and two actresses that need to GO AWAY!

Hilary Swank and Jada Pinkett.
Dane Cook and Hayden Christensen.

5. What movie remake pisses you off the most?

The upcoming Oldboy remake with Will Smith.

6. You have 24 hours left to live, what movies, if any, are you going to watch?

12 Angry Men, Network, 8 1/2, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Lady Vengeance, The Night Hunter, Playtime, Young Girls Of Rochefort, You The Living, Stop Making Sense, Raising Arizona and maybe finish with Magnolia to get that last shot of Melora Walters (though Kore-eda's "After Life" would be a great way to out as well...).

7. Does the fact that The Little Mermaid is about a female who trades her voice for a vagina offend you?

Well, not until you mentioned it...Geezus.

8. Can't Hardly Wait or 10 Things I Hate About You or She's All That?

10 Things I Hate About You is the class of that field (Larry Miller alone puts it a cut above, but the rest of the cast is very good as well). She's All That suffers from a bland plot and Freddie Prinze Jr., but Rachel Leigh Cook was pretty adorable in it. I never understood the appeal of I Can't Hardly Wait - it had potential but never seemed to cash in on it.

9. What's the first and last movie you watched at the theater?

First - probably Bambi or Dumbo.
Last - Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

10. Ask any question you'd like here, then answer your own question and the question of the poster above you.

Do I look fat?

Oh, film-related question? Sorry...Um, how about "Which country's cinema fascinates you most"? Though I love a great deal of French films, Japan continues to hold me in its clutches. Samurai films, yakuza, pinky violence, absurdist humour, anime, ghost stories, j-horror, family dramas - there's just a wealth of creativity.

As for Fletch's question:

Would you rather run the rough edge of a steak knife across your eye or hold your arm in a furnace for 30 seconds?

The furnace. No question. Considering how much it hurts when I get an eyelash caught under my contact lens, I'll take the flaming arm thank you very much. And yes, I winced like crazy when I saw Un Chien Andalou.

Worst film of 2008? I've avoided the true stinkers, but "Repo! The Genetic Opera" was pretty putrid. The "work in progress" cut of "New York I Love You" was quite horrible, but maybe they can save it (well, actually, I don't think they can, but maybe they can avoid it being the worst film of 2009).
